THE GREEN UMBRELLA MISSION

Green Umbrella propels and improves the economic vitality and quality of life in the tri-state region around Cincinnati by integrating the energy of individuals and organizations focused on the environmental aspects of sustainability in order to maximize their collective impact.

We define "sustainable" as meeting the environmental, social and economic needs of today while preserving the ability of future generations to do the same.

BY 2020, WE WILL MEET THE FOLLOWING GOALS:

  • GreenSpace/Land: increase the total acreage of high quality greenspace in our region.

  • Outdoor Recreation/Nature Education: increase the time spent outdoors by children and adults.

  • Energy Conservation: reduce the total energy consumption in the built environment by 15%

  • Renewable Energy: double the local production of renewable energy each year.

  • Local Food: double the percent of fruits and vegetables sourced within the region.

  • Transportation: reduce the region's use of gasoline and diesel motor fuels by 25%.

  • Waste Reduction: regionally earn $40 million per year by selling 400,000 tons of material that we presently put into the landfill.

  • Green Jobs: develop a target for growing green jobs for each action team.
