Green Umbrella’s Assistance to Regional Greenspace Protection Activities

GREEN UMBRELLA’S ASSISTANCE TO REGIONAL GREENSPACE PROTECTION ACTIVITIES

Green Umbrella advisors recently have assisted in the preservation of two greenspaces in Hamilton County. One is a unique wetland forest in Mount Washington that was slated to become a residential development. An environmental site assessment by a Green Umbrella consultant helped to raise the funds needed for the purchase of the threatened property from the developer. Plans are underway to make the wetland site publicly available, especially for educational use by students and teachers from area schools and colleges.

The second greenspace activity in which Green Umbrella provided expert advice involved the preservation of a riparian forest along both sides of West Fork of the Mill Creek. Construction of a Wal-Mart Store on Hamilton Avenue in Springfield Township threatened the health of the adjoining woodland with vegetation damage, building debris, vehicle noise, parking lot runoff and litter problems. Green Umbrella consultants assisted concerned neighbors of the forest as they worked with Wal-Mart’s architects to prevent environmental damage to the riparian woodland community. Under Wal-Mart’s ownership, the linear forest will continue to exist as a natural, undisturbed greenway upstream of Winton Lake.
