Stewardship @ Todd's Fork

Sat. May 15, Noon - 4 p.m.

By Mark Besserman, Land Steward, Cardinal Land Conservancy

After getting 100 Swamp White Oak and 35 hybrid American Chestnut trees planted in April, the May volunteer stewardship event at Todd's Fork will focus on some needed cleanup work. We will be clearing brush from the fence line along the entrance driveway. The fence is nearly a half-mile long and has a lot of brush and trees growing through it. We will be using loppers, hand saws, and chain saws to cut away the brush. We will also be spraying the stumps to prevent regrowth.

Project Details:

  • The preserve is located at the southwest corner of Center Rd and North Nelson Ave, on the north side of Wilmington. The entrance is on North Nelson, just over quarter-mile south of Center Rd. There will be Cardinal Land Conservancy signs at the gravel entrance driveway.
  • Bring gloves and hand tools (clippers, loppers, hand saw) if possible. I would also recommend long pants, waterproof boots, and bug spray.
  • As of Monday, the weather forecast is looking great - upper 60s and sunny!

COVID-19 Update: For our outside volunteer group events, we are continuing to be careful with COVID-19 precautions. Most importantly, we are quickly dispersing people in small groups or individually, rather than having large group gatherings to help maintain social distancing. We will continue to follow Ohio and Federal guidelines concerning outdoor events.
