Organization: Cincinnati Nature Center
Sunday August 8
1:00 PM – 3:00 PM
Preregistration required for all participants. This is an ADULT class offering. Keenly interested youth ages 13 and up may attend with a parent.
Registered program participants should meet at the white Creekside Barn at Long Branch Farm & Trails, 6926 Gaynor Road, Goshen, OH 45122.
Forest Bathing, also called Shinrin-yoku, is a practice of immersing yourself in nature that was developed by the Japanese to relieve stress. This guided Forest Bathing walk offers an opportunity to slow down and awaken the senses which allows you to quietly take in nature’s gifts.
Participants should be prepared to arrive early (10 minutes early recommended). The facilitator will head out on the trail promptly at 10 minutes after posted program start time. If you have never been to the Long Branch Farm and Trails location, please plan to leave plenty of extra time to allow you to find the site, park, use restrooms, etc. Forest bathing is a sequential program - late arrivals cannot be inserted into the program.
About the guide: Ellen Foley is a Forest Therapy Guide certified with The Association of Nature and Forest Therapy. Ellen’s experiences finding solace in nature inspire her to guide others in mindfully walking through and connecting with the natural world.
What to expect: This hike will take place entirely outdoors. Forest Bathing experiences follow a standard sequence that includes quiet, slow, attentive walking, guided sensory experiences, individual mindful time, opportunities for group sharing, and a closing tea ceremony using foraged ingredients. We will be standing or sitting on the ground during the periods of sharing. A limited number of three-legged stools and sit-pads are available. Consider bringing your own lightweight camp chair if you have one.
How to dress: We will be out on the trails and moving slowly. Please dress in layers to ensure proper warmth and comfort. This program runs rain or shine.
What to bring: Bring something to sit on (light folding chair, flexible cutting board, old raincoat, stadium cushion, a large plastic bag, etc.).
Unvaccinated people, including children kindergarten and up, are required to wear masks while inside all facilities (for example, Rowe Visitor Center, restroom, etc.). Masks are not required outdoors.
Members $12; nonmembers $21. Online tickets purchased for nonmembers include admission.
