2022 Candidate Education Night: County and State Level Sustainable Action
May 17, 2022 @ 7:00-8:30 pm via Zoom
Calling all County Commissioner/Legislature candidates in Southwest Ohio, Northern Kentucky, and Southeast Indiana!
Calling all State Legislature candidates in Southwest Ohio!
Green Umbrella, in partnership with the Ohio Environmental Council Action Fund, presents an educational event about sustainability action and policy for candidates running for local office. Regional sustainability leaders will educate candidates about how county and state elected officials can prepare their communities to act, where resources and champions are needed for continued progress, and how to leverage forthcoming funding. By understanding the history and current goals of the county/state level opportunities, candidates can develop platforms that are in alignment with federal programs and strategies identified by the community through regional planning processes. This session will also provide background on the provisions available for communities through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which provides $973 billion over five years from FY 2022 through FY 2026, including $550 billion in new investments for all modes of transportation, water, power and energy, environmental remediation, public lands, broadband and resilience.
The event is open to all confirmed candidates running for County Commissioner in SW Ohio (Butler, Clermont, Hamilton, and Warren), Northern Kentucky (Boone, Campbell, Grant, and Kenton), and SE Indiana (Dearborn and Franklin), or for State Representative in SW Ohio. Candidates are also welcome to register campaign staff as guests.
Candidates will be encouraged to develop detailed sustainability platforms to share at a public forum in fall 2022. Green Umbrella and Ohio Environmental Council Action Fund staff are available to offer support to candidates in crafting their platforms prior to the forums.
