VISION Keynote: Beyond Checking the Box: Community Engagement for Impact

About this event:

Every project has an impact beyond the client and property lines. Effectively engaging with communities is critical to ensuring that this impact is positive and supports the health, safety, and welfare of those who interact with a project. This session will explore engagement strategies related to affordable housing and community development, and highlight opportunities to increase the value of engagement and move beyond checking a box.

Learning Objectives:

• Explain the importance of identifying and engaging stakeholders throughout all stages of a project, including programming, design, and construction.
• Identify opportunities to integrate engagement strategies into architectural practice to promote the welfare of the end user and the surrounding community.
• Implement play-based engagement strategies to connect with a wide audience and convey various social, environmental, and economic impacts of a project to stakeholders.
• Identify potential barriers to effective engagement and strategies for overcoming those barriers to have a positive impact.
