About this event:

Women Sharing the Outdoors program is designed to provide a FUN and supportive atmosphere where women (and girls ages 16 +) feel comfortable learning outdoor skills from female instructors. The encouraging, hands-on and non-competitive learning environment builds confidence in our participants from all abilities and backgrounds.

This onsite event, “Outdoor Skills Sampler: Part 4”, is being offered at the Izaak Walton League of America, Cincinnati Chapter located at 544 Branch Hill-Loveland Road, 45140 along the Little Miami River. The one- day event occurs on Saturday, August 27 with two choices of session times: 9:00am - 11:30am OR 12noon - 2:30pm. A $10 non-refundable donation is requested for attendance at this event.

Instructors, who are mostly female, offer offer an introduction into the various skills being covered instruction in these 45 minute skill stations:

ARCHERY: Learn how to shoot a lightweight compound bow and arrows at bullseye targets. This will be for beginner & intermediate participants.

BIKING: Get basic tips on choosing the right bike for you plus get hands-on experience with preventative maintenance and repairs led by members of the Cincinnati Cycle Club.

CANOEING / KAYAKING: After the water safety instruction and getting correctly fitted with a PFD jacket, participants will get to paddle on the river.

AIR RIFLE / BB GUN: Safe handling as well as other firearm safety will be discussed. Afterwards you will get a chance to shoot at novelty targets to see who will be named the Annie Oakley of the WSO!

FLY FISHING: Buckeye United Fly Fishers (BUFF) share their expertise of this rewarding sport with casting performed on land. Brad Pitt and Robert Redford send their apologies that they will not be able to attend this station as instructors!

FLY KNOT TYING: BUFF members provide the supplies and hands-on experience for you to make your own fly lure to take home.

Attendance at this event is limited to 2.5 hours after your chosen starting time. Due to time limitations, participants will only be able to participate in three of the stations offered. You will list your preferences of skill stations during the registration process. Some skill stations will fill faster than others.

If you are a woman who: * has never tried these activities but hoped for an opportunity to learn. * is a beginner and wants to improve your skills. * enjoys the camaraderie of like-minded individuals ...then this event is for you! Only 30 spots available at each timed session.
