Sustainability Spotlight

Learn From Cincinnati 2030 District Partners Next Week

You've probably heard of LEED, but do you know about the WELL building certification? WELL is the leading tool for advancing health and well-being in buildings. Bring your lunch to City Hall on Tuesday, January 28 from 12:00-1:00 pm for an informative presentation on the WELL Building and WELL Community Standards.

Then join M+A Architects at HighGrain Brewery for Banter and Brews on Thursday, January 30 from 4:00-6:00 pm. The series explores solutions to achieve the four pillars of the Cincinnati 2030 District. This installation is focused on opportunities to reduce energy consumption and adopt alternative energy sources in the built environment.

Bike and Walk Audits Training with Tri-State Trails & ODOT

Tri-State Trails is hosting a four-hour training with the Ohio Department of Transportation's Active Transportation Academy on January 31 from 9:00 am-1:30 pm. The course will review different types of walk and bike audits that empower local communities to identify real and perceived safety issues. Register by January 24 at 5:00 pm.

Green Umbrella to Share Insights with Peer Cities

In February, Green Umbrella's Executive Director Ryan Mooney-Bullock has been invited to share insights on our collective impact work with two new initiatives largely modeled after our work:

On February 4, Bluegrass Greensource will host Central Kentucky's inaugural Bluegrass Sustainability Summit, featuring a keynote by Mark Fisher of the Cincinnati Zoo and a plenary panel focused on the successful work of Green Umbrella and the City of Cincinnati.

And on February 29, Ryan will keynote a summit organized by the Regional Ohio Action for Resilience (ROAR), a group incubating a regional sustainability hub in Central Ohio.

Learn the Ins and Outs of Developing Community Gardens

Join the Civic Garden Center for a free twelve-week Community Gardens Development Training Program where you will learn everything you need to know to start and operate a community garden sustainably. The curriculum offers a unique set of tools, from civic engagement and fundraising, to building raised beds and gardening practices. Classes start February 5.

Drawdown Series with the Pachamama Alliance

Learn about Project Drawdown's 100 climate solutions and explore ways to implement them at the local level with a 5-part workshop series, Drawdown - Getting into Action hosted by the Pachamama Alliance.

The free series will run Tuesday evenings from 7:00-9:00 pm at Green Umbrella, beginning February 11.
