Sustainability Spotlight:

Newsy Docuseries 'Modern Metropolis' Examines the Collaborations Creating Sustainable Cities and the Launch of the Cincinnati 2030 District

Modern Metropolis tells the story of how Cincinnati formed the Cincinnati 2030 District, an initiative of Green Umbrella. The Cincinnati 2030 District is designed to reduce the climate footprint of our buildings with ambitious goals of decreasing energy-, water- and transportation-related emissions by 50% by the year 2030.

Newsy Brand Studio developed the series over 2 years, while following a diverse group of businesses, government agencies, academic institutions and nonprofit organizations as they worked to find common ground toward making healthier buildings and a healthier Cincinnati. The series highlights the resilience of our entire community despite the multitude of challenges 2020 has brought to us collectively. Join us in celebrating the positive things that are happening in our region, and the people who strive to create a brighter, more sustainable and equitable future.

Ride with Tri-State Trails in Support of Active Transportation

Last month Tri-State Trails released our region's first Active Transportation Policy Platform outlining policies and practices that will make Greater Cincinnati safer, more accessible, and more enjoyable for walking and biking. Since then seven candidates have formally adopted the platform!

On Saturday, October 17, Tri-State Trails is hosting the NKY Meet the Candidates Ride. Join fellow bicycle advocates for a ride around Northern Kentucky in support for active

transportation and meet some of the candidates running for elected office. Then don't miss the 2020 Tri-State Trails Summit on October 29, which will explore how access, equity and justice intersect in our region's trail and bikeway network and feature a keynote by Tamika Butler.

Regenerative Farming Panel and Film Screening Explores Solutions to Climate Change and Food Systems

Join us for the Kiss the Ground - Outdoor Film Screening on October 22 to learn how restoring the earth's soil is key to solving climate change and food security! We are thrilled to announce a pre-film discussion panel featuring local farmers and food systems experts:

  • Dawn Knickerbocker from the Greater Cincinnati Native American Coalition
  • Jim Linne from White Clover Farm
  • Drausin Wilson from Grassroots Farm & Foods
  • Chad Bitler from Greenacres Foundation
  • Nicole Gunderman from Gorman Heritage Farm

Ohio Stormwater Awareness Week is October 18-24

Ohio Stormwater Awareness Week is a regional effort that encourages communities to be more conscious of how what we do at home and work affects water quality. You can help keep our water clean by planting native plants and trees, properly disposing of chemicals and hazardous waste, keeping storm drains clear of debris like leaves and litter, always picking up and throwing away pet waste, and volunteering at or organizing a socially distanced stream cleanup!

Greenspace Gem: Buttercup Valley Nature Preserve
