Green Umbrella Quarterly Meeting

Join us for our upcoming Quarterly Meeting on Thursday, May 7 from 3:30-5:00 pm to hear updates on our new impact teams and learn how collaborative partnership has led to big impact from Ryan Adcock, Executive Director of Cradle Cincinnati, and Kiana Trabue, Executive Director of Population Health Strategies at The Health Collaborative.

Stay after the meeting for Virtual Green Drinks Trivia from 5:00-6:00 pm. These events are free and open to the public. Please register in advance.

Free Sustainability Series Kicks Off With Faith Communities

The 2020 Midwest Regional Sustainability Summit has been rescheduled to take place on Thursday, August 6. Early-bird registration has been extended, and opportunities exist for sponsors and exhibitors.

This Friday, May 1, we are excited to kick off a series of free, one hour biweekly webinars featuring speakers who will be presenting at this year's summit.

Our first session will feature local religious leaders for a discussion about the role that faith communities and congregations play in creating a resilient and regenerative region where our people and our natural environment flourishes. Speakers include Joanne Gerson, Founder and President of Shomrei Olam, and James Buchanan, Director of Xavier University's Brueggeman Center for Dialogue.  Space is limited, register today!

Imago's Reducing Waste Challenge

Throughout the month of May, learn from each other, set achievable goals and take real steps to reduce your household waste with Imago's Reducing Waste Challenge.

  • Goals: Imago will help you set attainable and tangible goals to keep you motivated!
  • Story SharingShare your successes (& failures). Lean on Imago's expertise and each other's experiences to learn what works (& what doesn't).
  • Group Discussion: An online forum where participants we can all ask questions and share resources.
  • Prizes: Each participant will receive prizes and one participant will receive a grand prize: a zero waste set from Seventh Street Gifts.

Greenspace Gem: Burnet Woods

Burnet Woods is a 90-acre wooded oasis in the center of Cincinnati and is one of the city’s oldest and largest parks. The park’s name honors Jacob Burnet, Cincinnati mayor and father of landowner Robert Burnet. The abundance of wildlife in its woodlands and meadows has earned national designation as an Important Bird and Biodiversity Area.

Professional Opportunities 

Collective Impact Forum is hosting a virtual 2020 Collective Impact Convening May 6-8. Sessions will cover topics such as community engagement, equity, mental models and narrative change, policy change, relationships and power dynamics, and use of data for continuous learning.

International Living Future Institute is hosting a virtual Living Future '20 unConference May 7-8. The theme of the green building conference is Sustaining Hope Within Crisis.

Green Umbrella's Book Club will meet on May 28 and June 25 to discuss The Nature Fix: Why Nature Makes Us Happier, Healthier, and More Creative, by Florence Williams.

Pachamama Alliance is hosting the Game Changer Intensive, an 8-week online course to inspire and equip you to become a game changing leader in the world. Enroll by June 7. They also offer an ongoing online course, Awakening the Dreamer, which invites you to reflect and discover opportunities to create a new environmental future. 

Greater Cincinnati Foundation is offering Learning Links + COVID-19 Classroom Relief grants of up to $1000 for K-12 projects, events, classroom and after-school programming, and service learning projects to address learning loss due to COVID. Proposals due August 7.

PEDCO and emersion DESIGN will host the 2020 REBUILD conference, focused on sustainability in the built environment, on October 1. This year’s theme is Resiliency, centered around high impactful strategies and tactics for REbuilding, REjuvinating and REvitalizing the Midwest.
